McNaughton has led hundred million dollar recovery programs for New Zealand Red Cross and was an Executive Director at the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. She is a Winston Churchill fellowship recipient, an Edmund Hillary Fellow and a co-author of Leading in Disaster Recovery: A Companion through the Chaos.
